It’s the quietest of all the masters, but the one I prefer to listen to. This album was recorded in 16-Bit/44kHz at the time. It would make no sense for me to render to a higher bit-rate. I kept it the same in order to preserve it as it is.

The most drastic change of style out of all of my “alter-egos” (they’re so overused in music nowadays I’m some-what embarrassed to have so many. Oh well, shit happens) is probably Szatkowski. I’ve never really set a genre for Szatkowski although it would be most easiest to say ‘Electronic.’ Most people expect me to make more hip-hop type of music but truthfully, I enjoy creating other kinds of music. I created Szatkowski when I wanted to step out of my realm of creative comfort completely…. and I loved doing it. Whenever I want to express myself in an entirely different way, I always bring out Szatkowski. I always have a ton of fun when I’m working this way. This time, instead of taking a Dance approach throughout the entire James EP, I also went into a more emotionally driven electronic direction. When I’m creating under the moniker of Szatkowski, the projects are usually short EPs and such. Same as with the James EP. However I created this with the intent of making a full length follow-up: Michael.

Well, I’d listen to the original version of The Zur-En-Arrh Theory, and there were some minor changes I wanted to make. It’s not just changes in the mastering, but also in the mixes themselves. However, these changes are very subtle. Rather than doing a remaster that completely disregards the other version, I decided to make an alternate to stand next to it. Neither one of these masters are ‘loud’ as I wanted to preserve the dynamics. I prefer this version.

I don’t know how I feel about this album. Sometimes I hate it. Sometimes I prefer it over other things I’ve done. This is extremely difficult for me to listen to personally. I have almost no idea what was going through my head as I recorded this album. I say almost because I know only two things: what I wanted to say on the album, and that I was extremely paranoid during the process. I recorded Monocane with cabin fever. Literally. Not in the sense that I was just bored and wasn’t doing much. No. It was literally cabin fever. I tend to keep myself focused on WHATEVER project I’m working on. Usually that means staying my room and recording constantly. However I still make a point to actually get out of the house and get fresh air. I did not do that during this period. The result is an incoherent mess, yet some of my most confessional songs ever. In fact, every song on here is a confession. The very first words you hear on the album are: Lock my door, ’cause I’m paranoid. Completely true. It was also a turning point for me. Throughout the process of recording Monocane I knew that I wanted to change. Go a new direction. So it wasn’t just a confessional, it was also killing off what was left of me and starting anew. Shedding skin. Exit D@MN JOKeR, enter Kalvero. After I finally heard the entire album, and after I decided it was done; I ALMOST wanted to throw it away forever and pretend it didn’t exist. My reaction was (and still is during some points in the album) “what the FUCK am I talking about?!” because there are so many moments on Monocane that are so surreal that I felt it was too confusing. Especially after recording something so open and straight-forward as Merry Fucking Christmas. This was a step in the opposite direction. I decided I’d keep it because of that very reason. Monocane, though confusing, sporadic, and unconventional – is a raw, pure, documented telling of my inner most thoughts. It’s messy, but necessary. It’s also one of the most important albums I’ve made because it ends one era (D@MN JOKeR) and starts a new one (Ugly Disgusting).
This is just a test. Ignore it.
